Meet Dr Leke

Hello. I'm Dr Leke Asong. I'm a GP and gut health specialist, and Ghuttie Snacks is something I've been secretly building for most of my career, shaped by nearly thirty years of working on my own gut health and helping my patients with theirs.
How it started
My own story started back in the late nineties, when the cravings and the bloating began and simply wouldn't let up. Like most people I looked to the supermarket for something healthier, and like most people I walked out with ultra-processed food dressed up in health-sounding packaging, which is how I learned that the more of it I ate, the worse I felt. The angrier I got with ingredient lists, the more determined I became to find real food that did what it said on the front of the pack.
Seeing the same story in my patients
Years later, while I was training as a GP, I began hearing the same complaints from patients who had walked the same supermarket aisles I had, and it became clear that something had to change. I was already experimenting at home with a short list of whole ingredients, and a long stretch living in Bologna had convinced me that the Italians are onto something important. Real food, made with a handful of things you can name off the top of your head, tends to leave you feeling better than the version designed in a food laboratory.
Finding the superfoods
About ten years ago, while training further as a gut health specialist, I kept running into the same small family of ingredients that ancient cultures have leaned on for generations, specifically cacao, maca, baobab and moringa, plants with real nutritional weight and centuries of lived experience behind them.
Why sunflower seeds
I started building recipes around the humble sunflower seed because it's packed with nutrition, pleasantly mild in flavour, and a perfect canvas for a superfood to sing on. After several hundred kitchen experiments and a lot of honest feedback from my family, my friends and my gut health patients, I finally landed on a snack I was happy to put my name on, and that snack became Ghuttie.
What Ghuttie stands for
A good snack should earn its place in your day by tasting brilliant enough that you look forward to it and nourishing you well enough that you feel better for eating it, and that's the balance we've spent years getting right. Every pack we make is handcrafted in small batches in Nottinghamshire, with short, recognisable
ingredient lists, a little natural sweetness where it's helpful, and a superfood coating that does real nutritional work for your body.
We believe good nutrition has never needed to be complicated and that the most powerful ingredients have been sitting in the human diet for thousands of years, waiting for us to come back to them. Ghuttie is our small, delicious contribution to that return.
Ghuttie Snacks was born with the mission of bringing real nutrition back into our diets through the timeless power of natural superfoods.
